Licensed taxis and limos wait on the Arrivals curb of both terminals and charge the GTAA flat rate: no surge pricing — the flat rate does not change with traffic, weather or time of day; all taxes included in the flat rate; drivers are not permitted to charge extra for credit-card payment. To Union Station, the CN Tower, City Hall or the Distillery District a taxi is $70 checked on 26 Sept 2026 · source: GTAA fare estimator and a limo $77 checked on 26 Sept 2026 · source: GTAA fare estimator. A legal car carries a GTAA number plate on the bumper and a decal on the window, and loads only at the curb outside Arrivals — never inside the terminal or a garage. "Flat rate. Very regulated. Very safe." (user report, Reddit, 2026)
Three queues share that curb: the taxi line, the limo line and the pre-arranged desk for cars booked before landing — which door each uses and which line suits you. Uber, Lyft and Hopp are not at Arrivals; they use a different level and their own zones — which door and zone your Uber or Lyft uses at Pearson. One rider after a cancelled app ride: "Ended up $30 more expensive but no wait." (user report, Reddit, 2024). The ride into the airport is priced differently — what you pay for a taxi to Pearson from the city.
Fares by destination
The fare is set by the zone your address falls in on the GTAA tariff map, not by meter or route; type your address into the official GTAA taxi and limo fare estimator before you land. The four downtown landmarks share one row because they sit in one zone.
| Destination | Taxi (sedan or van) | Limo (sedan, SUV or accessible van) | Transit alternative | What users reported (year) |
| Union Station, CN Tower, City Hall, Distillery District | $70 | $77 | UP Express, taxi, ride-share and TTC compared | about $60 in 2023, $70 in 2024–2026 (forum, Reddit) |
| Yorkdale Shopping Centre | $56 | $62 | — | — |
| Square One, Mississauga | $52 | $58 | — | "between $45 to $75 CAD" to UTM (Reddit, 2026) |
| Brampton City Hall | $69 | $76 | — | — |
| Vaughan Mills | $67 | $74 | — | — |

| Niagara Falls, ON | $239 | $263 | bus and train options from Pearson to Niagara Falls | — |
| Buffalo Niagara International Airport, NY | $285 (GTAA fare estimator) or $314 (GTAA tariff sheet) | $314 (GTAA fare estimator) or $345 (GTAA tariff sheet) | — | — |
Every row: GTAA fare estimator, checked on the date shown on the downtown fare above, taxes included, van at the sedan price. On the Buffalo row the estimator and the tariff sheet disagree; the fare card in the vehicle is binding, so ask to see it before loading.
Zone boundaries matter more than distance: "changing your drop off by 1 block can save you $15" (user report, Reddit, 2024). Off the map the flat rate stops — $1.90 per kilometre checked on 26 Sept 2026 · source: GTAA tariff sheet for a taxi, $2.01 per kilometre for a limo — unless the town is on the out-of-town list of the GTAA taxi and limo tariff sheet (PDF), same check date, which runs far longer than this:
| Out-of-town destination | Taxi | Limo |
| Barrie | $177 | $194 |
| Kitchener | $177 | $194 |
| Waterloo | $190 | $209 |
| London, ON | $338 | $371 |
| St. Catharines | $208 | $229 |
The surcharges, as the GTAA writes them:
- Extra passengers or bags: $15 checked on 26 Sept 2026 · source: GTAA, once per trip, announced before loading; taxis and limos alike.
- Stops you ask for: $10 for each 10 minutes or part thereof checked on 26 Sept 2026 · source: GTAA tariff sheet.
- More than one drop-off address: $15 for each additional passenger dropped off en route checked on 26 Sept 2026 · source: GTAA tariff sheet.
- Highway 407: Highway 407 tolls are added only if the passenger asks to use the 407 checked on 26 Sept 2026 · source: GTAA tariff sheet.
- Vehicle size: a 6-seat taxi van costs the same flat rate as a sedan; a limo SUV or accessible van costs the same as a limo sedan checked on 26 Sept 2026 · source: GTAA fare estimator.
A tip is custom, not tariff — paying and tipping.
Where the rank is
Doors depend on the terminal, so first confirm which terminal your flight arrives at. For Terminal 3 the GTAA's taxis-and-limos page and its accessibility page give different doors; we show both until the GTAA answers our query.
| Terminal (Arrivals Level) | Taxis | Limos | Pre-arranged taxi or limo | Uber, Lyft, Hopp |
| Terminal 1 | Door D, Arrivals Level | Door C, Arrivals Level | Door A, Arrivals Level — pre-arranged desk inside the terminal, at both Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 | not on this level — Terminal 1 ride-share zones |
| Terminal 3 | Door E (GTAA taxis page) or Doors D, E and F (GTAA accessibility page), Arrivals Level | Door E (GTAA taxis page) or Door F (GTAA accessibility page), Arrivals Level | Door A, Arrivals Level — pre-arranged desk inside the terminal, at both Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 | separate zones on the Arrivals curb — Terminal 3 ride-share zones |
Badge for the doors above: Door D, Arrivals Level checked on 26 Sept 2026 · source: GTAA. The Terminal 1 Arrivals level map with door letters shows where they sit; at Terminal 3, follow the taxi and limo signs on the Arrivals curb or look for the roof signs — the GTAA's own advice. Uber Black and Lyft Lux are the exception among the apps: they collect at Door A, Arrivals Level, at both Terminal 1 and Terminal 3, the same door as pre-arranged cars — Uber Black and Lyft Lux at Pearson.
An attendant sends you to the next car; a luggage cart can go to the loading area. "If you have too much luggage for a regular taxi or limo, the person organizing will radio for a larger vehicle." (user report, Reddit, 2022). On waiting: "There's rarely a wait of more than a minute or two." (user report, Reddit, 2025) — consistent across threads, not a guarantee; a 2026 thread mentions 10–15 minutes on a summer long weekend.
Queue or pre-book
Three ways to get a licensed car at the same curb: the taxi and limo lines run on the GTAA tariff, a pre-booked car on the operator's published terms.
| Taxi line | Limo line | Pre-booked car |
| Where | taxi door of your terminal | limo door | pre-arranged desk inside; call or text after customs |
| Wait | next car; users report a minute or two | reported shorter; not official | until the car arrives; operator's terms |
| Price basis | GTAA flat rate | GTAA flat rate, approximately 10% more than a taxi | operator's rate; one operator publishes "up to 20% off" — a published condition, not a recommendation |
| Payment | card, no surcharge | card, no surcharge | as published by the operator |
| Car seats | none; users report taxis need not carry them, no official rule captured | none | on request, not guaranteed |
| Luggage, groups | attendant radios a van, sedan fare | SUV or accessible van, sedan limo fare | specify when booking |
| At night | users report cars at all hours; the GTAA lists no hours | same | operator's terms |
| Suits | leaving now at a known price | the same, in a black car | families needing a seat, seven or more people, a named car waiting |
Who each line does not suit: a pre-booked car, if after a long flight you will not want to call and wait; the limo line, if you are six with eight suitcases — the SUV seats six but the taxi van has the luggage space. The honest split: "even though pre-booking is a bit cheaper, I found it much faster and less hassle to just get a fixed price car from the limo lineup rather than have to call and wait around for them to arrive." (user report, Reddit, 2026) and "There is no need to prebook a taxi, Limo, or Uber at Pearson Airport. There are always some waiting in line." (user report, Reddit, 2026). Whether a pre-booked car is cheaper depends on the operator — users report quotes both below and above the stand rate — so check the conditions before pre-booking: what is included, how the desk pickup works, what users report when the car does not show.
Groups, luggage, vans
This site used to say a van "needs" a surcharge. Wrong: a van does not cost more; the surcharge is for people or bags, not the vehicle. The GTAA rule: four or more checked bags and/or any oversize piece, or five or more persons, is subject to an additional $15 checked on 26 Sept 2026 · source: GTAA, and "Driver must inform passenger(s) of the surcharge prior to loading and departing the terminal curb, and can only be charged once per trip." That sentence is your lever if it is announced once you are seated.
| People and bags | Vehicle | Surcharge |
| up to four people, up to three checked bags | taxi or limo sedan | none |
| four or more checked bags, or an oversize piece | sedan if it fits, otherwise a van (taxi) or SUV (limo) at the same fare | $15 once |
| five or six people | taxi van (six seats, sedan fare) or limo SUV (six seats, sedan limo fare) | $15 once; not again for bags |
| seven or more, or luggage beyond a van | two cars, or a pre-booked larger vehicle | one per car where it applies |
Capacities and the van rule: a 6-seat taxi van costs the same flat rate as a sedan; a limo SUV or accessible van costs the same as a limo sedan (GTAA estimator). One rider's arithmetic: "Fare should've been $42 plus $15 for excess baggage plus tip." (user report, Reddit, 2021). With a large party, state the bag count when booking: a reviewer of a pre-booked van reported the driver could only "call for another car and it would cost us $100 more" (user report, review site, 2019).
Licensed or not
A licensed airport taxi or limo, by the GTAA's description:
- GTAA number plate on the bumper and decal on the window;
- loads only at the designated Arrivals door, never inside the terminal or in a garage;
- roof sign (taxis) and the flat-rate fare information in the vehicle;
- takes a card with no extra charge.
Not a licensed airport car:
- anyone who approaches you inside the terminal or at the carousel — "cabs?", "taxi… taxi… taxi", "come with me";
- anyone offering a car parked in a garage or lot;
- a price from memory with no fare card to check it against.
"As you come outside from Arrivals, folks will come to you and will say "cabs ?", AVOID them as they feed the bandits." (user report, Reddit, 2026). The pattern is old — a Peel Police spokesperson called unlicensed pickups a daily occurrence in 2018 — and we have no current figures. The other side: "Unlicensed cabs etc aren't usually a problem at the airport" (user report, Reddit, 2026). Both hold: the touts exist, and walking past them costs nothing.
What to do: follow the taxi or limo signs to your terminal's door; if unsure, ask the curb attendant, whom the GTAA names as the person to ask; glance at the plate and decal before loading. If anything is off afterwards, note the plate number and the roof-sign phone number — if something goes wrong.
Late night and early morning
The GTAA describes the taxi and limo line without hours; users report cars at every hour — a pattern, not a schedule. What changes at night is the alternatives, so this is criteria, not a verdict.
| Time window | Taxi and limo line | Uber, Lyft, Hopp | Train |
| Evening, while the UP Express runs | usual line, GTAA flat rate | usual zones | when the last UP Express leaves Pearson |
| After the last train (users put it around 01:00) | line at Arrivals; users report it as their default | Uber's page: available 24/7, but driver supply may vary depending on when you land | none until morning |
| 04:00–05:30 | line at Arrivals | reports split, see below | not yet running, per users |
Locals told a 00:40 international arrival it would not make the last UP Express, because customs and bags take longer than the gap (Reddit thread, 2026). On the apps at 4 a.m. opinions diverge: "The driver was showing he is on the way but nothing happened for over 10 mins. I panicked and booked Lyft." (user report, Reddit, 2023) against "It cost me ~$41 to get to Pearson from Scarborough at 4am via Uber." (user report, Reddit, 2026). UberX averages CA$44–45 checked on 26 Sept 2026 · source: Uber for the past month — an average, not a guaranteed or night price — and users report that neither the apps nor cab companies would guarantee a van at that hour. For one person landing late, the official line's case is structural — fixed tariff, GTAA plate, card payment — not a safety verdict; the app's case is a price you cannot see until you open it at the curb.
Accessible taxis and limos
| You travel with | Taxi or limo line | Accessible limo | Uber | Lyft |
| a small aid: cane, walker, folding wheelchair | any car; passengers with mobility aids cannot be refused or charged extra; taxis and limos carry small aids, and accessible vehicles for non-folding aids are available on request at the limo stands or the pre-arranged desk at Door A | not needed | any ride type | any ride type |
| a non-folding or non-collapsible aid | ask at the limo stand | request at the pre-arranged desk; accessible van at the sedan limo price | Uber WAV vehicles for non-folding mobility aids are available on request in the app; Lyft has no such vehicles at Pearson (small mobility aids only) | no WAV at Pearson; small aids only |
| a service or assistance animal | take the first vehicle in the line-up | same | accepted | accepted |
| a pet | drivers may refuse animals other than service or assistance animals; with a service animal you can take the first vehicle in the taxi or limo line; for a pet, ask the curb attendant to find a vehicle that will take you | ask the operator before booking | driver's discretion | driver's discretion |
Rules from the GTAA taxis-and-limos and ride-sharing pages: passengers with mobility aids cannot be refused or charged extra; taxis and limos carry small aids, and accessible vehicles for non-folding aids are available on request at the limo stands or the pre-arranged desk at Door A checked on 26 Sept 2026 · source: GTAA. On pets: one pre-booked customer reported a driver demanding $10 for a small dog in a carrier (user report, Reddit, 2025); no such fee exists in the tariff — if the driver takes the animal, the flat rate is the price; if not, the attendant finds another car. A wheelchair user on the app route: "Took an UberXL to fit my chair + luggage, but traffic made it over an hour." (user report, Reddit, 2025). Wheel-Trans curb locations — Terminal 1 drop-off: Departures Level 3, Post 9; Terminal 1 pick-up: Arrivals Level 1, Door E (between E1 and E3); Terminal 3 pick-up and drop-off: Departures Level 3, Post 29 — and more on mobility when being picked up at Pearson.
If something goes wrong
Overcharging happens — the evidence is one detailed 2021 thread plus review snippets, so we cannot say how often — and each case breaks a written rule.
- The price quoted is higher than the table. The fare is fixed by zone and "Tariffs are based on driver's preferred route" — the route cannot raise it. Ask to see the flat-rate fare card in the vehicle, or open the official GTAA taxi and limo fare estimator. "First I was told it would be $40 bucks but when I reached home he asked for $70." (user report, Reddit, 2021) — that rider called dispatch and paid the quoted amount.
- A surcharge added twice, or announced after loading. The rule: $15 once per trip, announced before loading. Say so before you get in; at the destination, pay the fare on the card and report the plate.
- "Cash only" or "the card machine is down". The rule: drivers are not permitted to charge extra for credit-card payment checked on 26 Sept 2026 · source: GTAA tariff sheet; card acceptance is a licence condition, and users confirm airport taxis always take a card. If the machine is genuinely down, pay cash only against the fare on the card.
- Pressure to tip "for the luggage". A tip is custom, not tariff. "Driver charged $64 to QEW/Cawthra plus requested at least 20% tip since "that's how people pay for the extra luggage". I had no clear breakdown of the cost." (user report, Reddit, 2021). Decide the tip yourself — paying and tipping.
Who to complain to: note the GTAA plate and the roof-sign phone number (for a Toronto-licensed cab that is the brokerage or driver; the City says call it first, then 311). We found no published GTAA channel for the airport licence, so tell the curb attendant or dispatcher while you are at the rank.
